On July 4th, at North Ogden Cherry Days, the North Ogden Civic League will be selling local, handcrafted goods at their booth, The Little Country Store. Quilts, tea towels, wood turning, books, baby items, gifts and more will be sold to help raise money for the North Ogden Christmas lights display and other needed projects throughout the city. “Our signature project, since 1987 has been the Christmas lights in North Ogden,” said Diane Russell, president of the North Ogden Civic League. “Back in the day there were three strands of multi-colored lights that went across Washington Boulevard about where McDonald’s and 7-Eleven are now.” Today, the Christmas decorations line the light poles along the main streets in the city and Christmas lights brighten Bicentennial Park. There is also the Christmas Lighting Program when Santa Claus arrives in North Ogden, held the first Saturday of December. The North Ogden Civic League was organized in 1957, to improve and beautify the city. The first major project of the league was the North Ogden swimming pool, which was located where the new North Ogden Elementary is. Over the years and many fundraisers later, the League has provided North Ogden City with park boweries with tables, fountains, lights on the sledding hill, the grand piano and sound system in the library, insulation, floor coverings and a piano at the Senior Center, contributions towards the defibrillators on the ambulances, just to name a few. Over the years, this group of women have worked hard to help make North Ogden City the great place that it is today. Often working and giving behind the scenes, but making a huge impact on this city that many call home. Some of the fundraisers they are known for include the cookbook, hamburger booth at Cherry Days, rummage and bake sales, plum pudding project (that for years became the league’s main source of income), a beautiful North Ogden blanket that is available to purchase for $55 and the newest endeavor – The Little Country Store at North Ogden Cherry Days. The North Ogden Civic League is looking to add members. Contact Diane Russell at 801-782-3208 for more information.
