Even Stevens is known for their unique menu, but more importantly for giving back to the community. This “sandwich shop with a cause” is located in downtown Ogden at 22nd Street and Washington Boulevard. For every sandwich sold, Even Stevens gives a sandwich to a local non-profit. With locations throughout Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, Arizona and Washington, Even Stevens has donated more than two million sandwiches since 2014. As of January 8, 2018 the exact number was 2,262,109 sandwiches to 80 non-profit partners across six the states. “Our Ogden store is at over 133,000 sandwiches donated to Catholic Community Services of Northern Utah, Boys and Girls Club of Weber-Davis Counties, Ogden-Weber Community Action partnership Headstart and Youth Futures teen shelter,” said Mikaela Shafer, social media coordinator. Here is how it works: a customer purchases a sandwich at Even Stevens. At the end of every month they count how many sandwiches they’ve sold. For the number of sandwiches sold, they give that amount to the local non-profits. “We don’t directly donate sandwiches though; we created a system where our partners can order through a Sysco account that we set up for them,” she said. “We have a long list of operational supplies and food products they can order from. This method cuts down on waste and allows our non-profits to use funds immediately or save them for critical months.” Even Steven’s philosophy allows the non-profits to save time and money on feeding their clients and direct their efforts on their programs and making a difference in the community. So the next time you’re feeling hungry, stop by Even Stevens and and help fight hunger in our community, one delicious sandwich at a time.
